Saving ‘Loads’

Saving ‘Loads’

What’s the absolute worst home keeping chore for modern moms?  Arguably the worst chore for mom’s throughout history? That’s right, LAUNDRY!  It’s no fun, and It. Never. Ends.  Clothes, sheets, towels, rugs, slipcovers, some days my washer is going non-stop!   I go through so much detergent, so quickly, I found I was buying 3 or 4 bottles at a time whenever I could find it on sale.  ENOUGH!  I began to search for recipes to make my own, came up with a concoction that I love, and have been happily using it over a year.  It takes 10 min to put together, costs almost nothing and lasts about a month!  I don’t think I’ll ever go back to store-bought detergent again!

This is how I do it….

In a good sized jar, mix together the powdered ingredents-

Grate in the soap-

Mix in the scent-(omit this step if you are sensitive)

P1000615

Stir it together-

I use just 1 tablespoon, per load in my HE washer.  I wash everything on cold and use white vinegar in place of fabric softener.  Every thing comes out clean as a whistle, and smelling fresh, even my stinky running shirts!

Here is my basic recipe

1 cup Borax

1 cup Washing Soda

1/2 cup Baking Soda

1 Bar Fels Naptha, grated

1/3 cup Purex Scent Crystals

1/3 cup Oxy-clean powder

Mix it all together, and you are done, the hardest part is grating the soap!

Hope you will give it a try, it doesn’t lessen the volume of laundry, but it makes it more fun knowing you are saving ‘loads’ of money!!  Maybe you can buy more clothes to wash!
