RMT- Christmas 2015

RMT- Christmas 2015

Our Sunday morning ritual is to drink coffee and watch Food Network before we go to church.  We have been big fans of The Pioneer Woman for years, since she was a beginner blogger.  In fact I always joke that she is Mr.Fix-it’s ‘girlfriend’, because he talked about what she was cooking so often.  This morning, I was barely a half a cup in, when a commercial announced, “Only 25 days until Thanksgiving!”.  What in the world?  No wonder that we all feel so rushed and out of time from now until the end of the year, every holiday has its own countdown clock!

If you are like me, the added pressure that comes with hand making gifts can be enough to send you into fits of panic.  (I’ve got not one, but TWO men’s sweaters to knit, on one I’ve knit a whopping 2 rows, so there’s that!)  However, this little project will serve two purposes.  First, only two simple rows to help keep your sanity, and secondly, this cloth will make an awesome Christmas gift!  Yes, this one is a Christmas theme, this month instead of next so that we finish in time for gifting.  It is such a cute design, if I do say so myself, I am very tempted to tell you what it is before we start…….. but I won’t spoil the fun!

P1020477

How it works –

Come back to THIS post every day through November, and I’ll add two additional rows  to the pattern, listing the new rows under the date they are posted.  Don’t worry if you miss a day, I will just add the rows, never remove them.     **You may find it helpful to bookmark thedomesticdash.com, so you can find your way back!**

Use any worsted weight cotton yarn you like, (but a solid color will show up the design better).

Knit so that you create a ‘firm’ fabric, to really show off the relief stitches.  The tighter you knit the cloth, the more the design will POP!  For most of you, this will be a size 6 or 7 needle.  If you like a smaller dishcloth try using a dk weight cotton and a size 5 needle.

Just for fun, if/when you have a guess as to the design, leave a comment, the FIRST person to make an exact guess will win a prize from The Quarter Stitch in Wilmington, NC!  Good Luck!

Ohboyohboy! Maybe a Santa, a sleigh, reindeer, tree, snowman, Christmas cookie, candy cane, elf…who knows? Gotta check my stash to see what colors I have. How about Mr. & Mrs. Claus? Nativity scene? Christmas star? We shall see! Thanks Claire

Hubby and I returned from a wedding today. The trip was about 5-6 hours and it rained most of the drive. We were only worried a bit going over Donner Pass, elevation 7000+ feet. Worried that it might get cold enough to snow and had no chains. I’m hoping it’s a gingerbread man. I have always wanted to make one, Maybe it will be a snowflake! Let

Hello everyone… I think this time Claire has created a giant clock with lightening bolt hands that rush around so fast the days will spin and Christmas will be here in record time. There will be a big smile on the clock but still… time’s a-marchin’. I have several small items to knit – and a couple of ornaments. Still… two rows a night isn’t bad and seeing a cool picture grow well worth the time. Claire has suggested this will make a great gift so, it’s going to be more than one cloth I cast on this month and 4 finished holiday gifts well before Santa climbs on his sleigh. happy knitting all…

Hi everyone, I’m back. I took the summer off as I was swamped with my garden and grandkids and all of the projects they could think of for grandma to do. I am so excited to be back for the Christmas stocking. No guesses from me with only the garter stitch border on the needles. I will let the mystery unfold for a bit. I really missed this.

Huh, My computer is very busy this morning changing my words for me. I did not type Christmas stocking. I thought I typed Christmas selection. Now my computer is getting in the action. Who knows, could be a Christmas stocking chock full of goodies. That apparently is my computers guess. Hahaha

went thru my cotton stash and found a white with a silver thread wrapped around it..looks very festive and a snowflake would look really nice on it..it is Bernat Holidays 80 g ball and color is white sparkle..have no idea where it came from, but could have been given to me as I work with cotton a lot..maybe it is a Christmas tree..

Well, red yarn for me – last one in my stash. Maybe it is a cheerful Let It Snow message with a snowman, snowy house or snowy tree. Maybe a mistletoe or a camel with a wise man and a manger. Christmas 2015 spelled out, or Rudolph the red nosed reindeer.

I’d be tickled with an elephant wearing a santa hat but that’s just me. I’m using three different shades of green and a lone red. Thinking about adding one more color to each cable for a total of 6 but have to wait and see what colors are in the shop tomorrow. Why ? In the knitting to get these started, I thought about who to gift them to and came up with more names than 4. Sheesh ! An Elf would be cute Elizabeth.

I only chose dark green because it was all I had that wasn’t verigated. I have been having so much fun doing all these dishcloths that I didn’t realize I had used up almost all my solid cotton yarn. I don’t have anyplace to buy yarn except Walmart. This weekend I was out of town for a wedding and went to Michael’s and stocked up on cotton yarn. Maybe it will be the Grinch or a Grinch look-a-like!

The date Xmas-2015 or ..”Happy Holidays” perhaps a house with smoke coming out of the chimney .and .”Coming Home would be appropriate wording….

ok… so much for a clock face but …. time still is moving along. I’m thinking a line trees will develop – you know, the trees waiting for someone else to pick.

Wishing all who celebrate it a happy Thanksgiving Day . And for those who don’t, a happy day anyway with a thanks for knitting along and a big thanks for Claire for making this possible.

Back to the needles.. I’m knitting a cowl so fast I’m afraid the yarn is going to felt way before I finish the project. (For me that just over the pace of a turtle running a race with a snail). But the yarn is very close to roving so I need to slow things down. One more cowl to make after this one and I still have knitting to do on this year’s ornament, and a pair of fingerless gloves and a scarf which, thankfully, is nearly finished. That’s a big list for me with only a month to finish it all off.

The “More to come design” has me confused as it’s starting to look like a disabled sleigh on the back of a pickup truck..or my eyes are playing tricks on me..this is a good one Clare

I agree jonibee – it is a bit perplexing! Could it be an angel that goes on top of the tree? Claire, you really have us going on this one – lovin’ it!

Could it be a pick up truck carrying a Christmas tree driving past a row of pine trees or a Christmas tree farm?
    Happy Thanksgiving

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Congratulations Jonibee. I have a feeling that you will have enough self control to wait until Christmas. We will just have to be patient and wait, it will be something to look forward to. Thank you again Claire for all your hard work. I am so glad that I found your site I am having fun and making friends too.
