RMT, April 2015

RMT, April 2015

I was selling yarn at the shop today when it dawned on me that it was the last day of the month, time for a new dishcloth KAL!  April is such a wonderful month, the flowers start to bloom, fresh vegetable plants are planted and the whole earth is covered in yellow powder!  If I could design a dishcloth that featured pollen, I would, because nothing reminds me of spring more! 🙂   Easter is also early in the month this year, so I have decided not to do an Easter-themed cloth, so no need to guess an Easter bunny!  Any spring color will work well, (mine will be yellow), and this one is a simple knit/purl design so no need to stress over new stitches.  (We’ll save the new stitches for next month when we work a cloth Betty has cooked up for y’all!)  Happy Spring!!

P1020477

Come back to THIS post every day through April, and I’ll add two additional rows  to the pattern, listing the new rows under the date they are posted.  Don’t worry if you miss a day, I will just add the rows, never remove them.     **You may find it helpful to bookmark thedomesticdash.com, so you can find your way back!**

Use any worsted weight cotton yarn you like, (but a solid color will show up the design better).

Knit so that you create a ‘firm’ fabric, to really show off the relief stitches.  The tighter you knit the cloth, the more the design will POP!  For most of you, this will be a size 6 or 7 needle.  If you like a smaller dishcloth try using a dk weight cotton and a size 5 needle.

Just for fun, if/when you have a guess as to the design, leave a comment, the FIRST person to make an exact guess will win a prize from The Quarter Stitch in Wilmington, NC!  Good Luck!

Wow! Another new cloth to knit. I sure do love these. Thanks Claire – I appreciate this opportunity and always enjoy your kals. Not sure what color to use – gotta check my stash, as that is where I have been shopping till I get it under control! (Yeahright – like that will ever happen in my lifetime – lol!) No idea what this will be, but I look forward to it. Happy April to all.

I’m starting on time this month. It’s such a kick to read all the guesses when I don’t have a clue and this time I’ll be knitting along with everyone so I can be dazzled by your imagination right off the bat . One of these months I’m going to see what you all see : ). Found some very pretty light peachy color to use in my stash so… here’s to the knittin’.

I’ve been making these into a blanket. I think I will knt two of these at the same time so I can finish my blanket. I am hoping for a pansy, lilac, iris, daffodil, tulip, or other spring flower!

Deborah Pearson– I can relate I have so much yarn I shouldn’t buy any more but we all know that isn’t going to happen. However I did checked my stash and found a lavender which is a good spring color. Perhaps there is hope for me after all. Thank you Claire for taking your time to create our monthly challenge.

Thanks for helping me adjust my thinking. When you said you love pollen, my thoughts were “are you crazy?!” But continued thought on the matter, I love pollen too! Just that when it heavily blankets the region, I do not like it as much. Why bother dusting! I am going to make a guess that it is a type of bee or bees. Perhaps they might like pollen more than Claire! One other guess would be polka dots/pollen. Daffodils or Jonquils would be my guess for a flower. Not to wait patiently for the daily rows and unveiling of the mystery!!:-)

I’m with you, Tina, nothing worse than pollen for those of us with allergies. I’m just starting to see the little green sprouts of my bulbs popping up. Can’t wait to finally see flowers instead of dirt. I’m thinking April showers bring May flowers so maybe an umbrella with maybe raindrops above and/or flowers below! Or some tulips and daffodils like in my garden. Or a bee on a flower that would cover Claire’s pollen! There’s also earth day this month so maybe it’s the globe.

I think perhaps it’s a giant bumbpy raincloud with raindrops – and I have been SO wrong so many times . . . of course I’m knitting in a purple ombre, so that makes the pattern even harder to guess. And we had SNOW today!!! Argh!

My hubby came home from work today and said one of his coworkers is getting married and moving, could I possibly make her some dishcloths. SO… I asked how long I had to make them and he said he would like to give her 6 and I have 2 weeks. Sooooooooooooo, I resorted to the basic diagonal dishcloth. Men don’t understand the time involved in making these things or that we may be making other gifts? So right now on needles I have this KAL which I refuse to give up, an alphabet baby blanket for a friend, butterfly magnets for my sister and my usual whatever item I make to donate for charity. I feel like that little engine. I think I can… I think I can… I think I can… I think I can… lol know I can!

I decided to use a lovely hot pink. Nice for Spring, eh? We had a great Easter, although it was 50’s and overcast all day. Today is a beautiful Spring day God gave us – it’s expected to reach 87! Sunny and calm with clear blue skies, and humming birds are at my feeder. Could our cloth picture be a flower pot and flowers on the right side at ground level? Or perhaps a small cabin with a walkway and flowers along it. I rarely guess correctly, but this is such fun. Am always amazed at how accurately others guess the picture early on. Now I am caught up with my rows, it is time to begin chores. Have a great day, all!

Perhaps it’s “Peter” rabbit in “Mr. MacGregors” garden patch..which is just about this time that we should be getting our gardens prepared..only up this way it’s too chilly, rainy..I don’t think Winter can let go of his “grip”….

Today I went out and started raking the dried weeds in the “front yard”. I use this term loosely because right now it’s just dirt and weeds. I am prepping it for gravel. It will in time have hand made stepping stone walkway and fun above ground planters. I think this will be about a 2 year project just because I will be making the stepping stones for the pathways. Peter Rabbit won’t have a garden to sneak into, and hopefully the gophers won’t eat the flowers.

I haven’t got a clue to what we are knitting. Maybe Sunbonnet Sue looking at flowers near a rain chain? Claire has us confused as usual. I love trying to figure out what she designed. It keeps me coming back month after month. Thanks Claire for doing this. It has to be a lot of work, but I know I really look forward to my new rows every day.

Elizabeth I am sure that when you get through your front yard will look lovely. I did go after the fire ants yesterday before it started to rain that way all I had to do was sprinkle the mounds and let the rain water it it. Don’t feel sorry for the ants I did get bitten, Just one but that was enough. Claire you have out done yourself this time I have no idea but I am still knitting and hope that I will get an inspiration.

Marjorie, I am with you which is why I thought Benjamin Bunny or Peter Cottontail. My brain just wants to make a rabbit out of the picture despite the fact that Claire said no Easter Bunny! So then I tried to force myself to think out of the bunny mode and am thinking it could be an Angel, or maybe a Fairy or a little girl kneeling. I think my gauge is too loose for me to clearly see it though.Claire has done a good job on this one I guess as we are half way through the month and no real guesses! Haha.

I’ve been missing my 2 lines a morning. I’ve been looking at it multiple times turning it every which way and the only thing I can see is either a squirrel with a tree or a chipmunk next to a flower pot or garden. Otherwise it makes no sense to me just yet. I have enjoyed reading everyone’s comments!

It sure looks like a bunny on the left to me but maybe not the Easter bunny. I got a few days behind and I’m also hampered by the fact that I am using sugar and cream in robins egg blue even though it is a light color it is very bright and it seems hard to see the stitches. It’s almost like there is a glare on the screen “” of my washcloth. I’m using my usual US five needle. Having fun with it and I love rabbits so rabbits are all good for me.

Might be a rabbit sitting near flowers at the base of a tree, looking up at a bird in the tree.

Also could be a rabbit sitting near flowers looking up at a hummingbird. Looks like a pole on the right side, which could have a hummingbird feeder hanging from it with a hummingbird flying around it.

Elizabeth. Help! I am having a hard time remembering where little bunny Foo Foo
comes from I know that I must have read it or watched something with it in when the granddaughter were small but I can’t think what it was.

How about Peter Cottontail in Mr. McGregors cabbage patch that had a fence around it to keep bunnies like Peter Cottontail out. LOL The garden could’ve had carrots–my mind isn’t what it used to be. No Grandkids around to read them any stories. They live in Ohio and I live in New York. (sigh)

Maybe it’s because my dogs have been eating some crazy things lately, but I’m seeing a dog looking at (or possibly eating) a tree. Soooo no guesses here.

Whatever it is that’s hanging over the bunny is huge bigger than his head I hope it doesn’t fall and injure him. Thanks for the knit along Claire it’s fun. I got a week behind but just caught up today. Any chance you will be putting up the ravelry project page soon? I couldn’t find it. Can’t wait to see what develops above the bunny.
