I was so pleased with the overwhelming response from our first dishcloth KAL in August. If you didn’t get to participate, it’s not too late, the full pattern is still available! I had many ladies tell me they knit more than one, and with the holidays coming, why not? If you are a returning Knit-A-Longer, or a first timer WELCOME and ENJOY!
How it works –
Come back to THIS post every day through September, and I’ll add additional rows to the pattern, listing the new rows under the date they are posted. Don’t worry if you miss a day, I will just add the rows, never remove them. Most days I’ll add 2 rows, but I may throw in a few more, you never know!
Use any worsted weight cotton yarn you like, (but a solid color will show up the design better).
Knit so that you create a ‘firm’ fabric, to really show off the relief stitches. For most of you, this will be a size 7 needle.
Just for fun, if/when you have a guess as to the design leave a comment, the FIRST person to guess correctly will win a prize from The Quarter Stitch in Wilmington, NC!
HERE WE GO! Good Luck!

Yea! Hope she enjoys it!
A black panther hiding in a tree in a forest at midnight ? A green snake slithering in the grass in a clover field ? A mouse sneaking into the chicken house in a rain storm ? Oh ok, time to cast on and just knit : )
Ummm, NO.
I am looking forward to trying this. It will be only be my second KAL!
Welcome!
Casting on today. Always like a riddle. How fun!
My 1st KAL, let’s see how this goes 🙂
Is there a clue for today September 3rd?
September 3rd’s clues are row 5 and row 6. I am sorry I forgot to add the date!
Could it be a scarecrow on a hay bale, a haunted house or pumpkin on a hay bale?
Martha, Claire and family,
Was at your store today and heard about your Grandma’s passing. You have my deepest sympathy and are in my prayers.
LOU
Thanks Lou, we appriciate the prayers!
My deepest sympathy on your loss. My your memories comfort you.
Thanks
I am so sorry about your loss.
Thank you! I am too!
So sorry , Claire about your Grandmother. I want to say “thank you” to your sweet daughter for keeping us all updated on our last KAL. She certainly is special.
Caroline is so special…thank you
A cat
OK, row 10 is a dooooooosie!!!
Is it a cat, for Halloween?
Is it a Schoolhouse?
I thinks it’s a house. 🙂
No idea
My first mystery knit along and it’s really fun. I look forward to the next step, they zip right along and I get to stare at my knitting trying to picture where it’s going next.
So glad you are enjoying it!
Claire!
I got the yarn….It is fabulous! I see a nice pair of socks for ME in its future!
I’m so glad! Thanks so much for your understanding!
A Horse? or maybe a Sheep?
Is it a cow?
A tree or trees
Maybe an elephant?
How about a bear or dog? Or goat?
Is it a bridge?
Just wanted to verify the odd number rows are the right side correct?
Yes Ma’am!
Was in your shop the other day and it is wonderful! I bought my first “fancy” yarn and from now on your shop will be a must stop at when visiting my mother-in-law who lives about 10 minutes from the store! 🙂
thereadingknitter on ravelry
Terrific! I hope I get to meet you one day!!
Inverted Twin Towers?
That’s actually what I was thinking when I first started this KAL.
Is it a buffalo…or moose?
Hi Claire… I was trying to comment on my i-phone but it was not working. Just wanted to let you know that my sister in law, Bonnie, left me one of her August washcloths and your website and I couldn’t wait to start.. After a long work day, I am excited to pick up the needles and do my two rows… Thanks to you and Bonnie I am inspired again… (and the fact that my two year old beagle, Scooter, has finally stopped grabbing the yarn and running off with it) Let the knitting begin!!!!
Glad you are having fun! Bonnie is one of my favorite people on the planet!
S dinosaur
Very mysterious. 🙂
How about a Reindeer? Or a Lion?
Is it a watermill?
Lighthouse?
A sheep ?
A steer?
A plane?
A pig?…
A bull/mechanical bull/bull and rider?
This is my very first KAL! I just got back into knitting after almost a year long hiatus. I’m super excited for future updates. C:
Is it a bathtub? With someone bathing? Or maybe an Alpaca!
Could it be a witch’s cauldron?
An airplane or horse?
A llama or alpaca?
A moose
Apple trees???
A trailer or truck? You picked a good one….can’t see it yet….lol!
How about a bull?
My husband says its a hippo….?
a caterpillar?
Is it a bathtub or bathtub/shower?
This is impossible…
Is there a baby giraffe in it?
I’m really enjoying this one. I like the fact that I can’t figure out what it is yet – just makes it that much more interesting!
A bathtub?
Still thinking llama or alpaca, but a knitter in a chair seems like a possibility. I think someone must be getting a good laugh over our guesses! ;.)
A sleigh? Is it plant or animal….lol!!!
How about a bear?
A sheep or a ram perhaps?
I still think it’s a whale somehow…
Kitchen sink?
A camel?
Skull and cross bones?
Major shot in the dark, Frankenstein? XD
Is this a yak?
Is it a musk ox?
I think it’s probably a ram, ready for shearing. He’s very cute if that is what it is. 🙂
How about a Llama?
Ok didn’t see prior post….haha…how about a mountain goat…billy goat,nanny goat?
The suspense builds and I have given it my best guesses….believe it or not I still don’t get it…you guys are tough!!!
a ram or a billy goat. a sea monster.
Do we have a winner yet?
Squeee!!! Thank-you thank-you thank-you!!!
I enjoy knitting these mystery dish cloths. No matter what I am up to, it’s easy to squeeze in a couple of rows a day, and then I get to use my imagination to (almost literally) top it off! 🙂
I still cant see it maybe I made a mistake
So much fun!
Thank you so much.
Thank you so much.
WOW! I have made my first dishcloth!!! Bonnie has made many for me but I had a great time following the pattern, looking forward every night for the next two rows…. I have a blue ram!!!! Thanks Claire for making this such a fun project..Can’t wait for October…
