Riddle Me This- December

Riddle Me This- December

It’s December!  This has to be the busiest month of the year, so, I’d like to invite you to spend just a few minutes everyday, knitting 2 lines of a simple dishcloth.  Watch the stitches fall into perfect rows, reflect on the cleverness of your hands, a few minutes of peace, just for you!  Will you be the first to guess the design?  Maybe, but even if you aren’t you will end up with an adorable dishcloth, and all the fun that goes into making it!  This is another of “The Queen’s” designs, no special stitches or skills required!

P1020477

How it works –

Come back to THIS post every day through December, and I’ll add two additional rows  to the pattern, listing the new rows under the date they are posted.  Don’t worry if you miss a day, I will just add the rows, never remove them.

Use any worsted weight cotton yarn you like, (but a solid color will show up the design better).

Knit so that you create a ‘firm’ fabric, to really show off the relief stitches.  For most of you, this will be a size 7 needle.

Just for fun, if/when you have a guess as to the design, leave a comment, the FIRST person to guess correctly will win a prize from The Quarter Stitch in Wilmington, NC!

HERE WE GO!  Good Luck!

Thank you again so much for the wonderful prize. I’ve been there and with great enthusiasm. I am very happy to continue this nice experience. I would like to find all the people of the previous Kal and know many of the new, I’ll do’ with wool, as the previous, but with knitting needles most’ children, 4 mm. instead 4,5. I’d use dark pink. Thanks and a lot of Ciao to all.

I am back too! This time I am using my cone of green – sort of a medium olive color and I bumped down to a size 7 rather than the 8 I used for the Magi last time. Unfortunately, the only size 7s currently at hand are one 12″ straight and one 7″ dpn with a stopper on the end! Forging ahead anyway. Enjoying this with my morning coffee here in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Claire, would it behoove me to read the pattern backwards (as a lefty) or is the image reversible? Obviously, these first two rows go either way.

if it’s not a sheep, I’m guessing some trees (or a forest of broccoli? ha ha, hanging out with the kids too much this morning – got me in a silly mood….) although, a broccoli forest would be appropriate for wiping up the table after some meals….then we could design other random acts of vegetable-ness too….Will have to remember this idea for something later. Thanks for the fun!

Hello everyone from New Orleans! I am really very late in joining everyone, but anxious to catch up. I finally finished Christmas knitting last week, then made a cap for my brother who insisted that he did not want a hand knit gift. He started complaining about his ears and neck being cold when we had some cold rainy and windy weather a few weeks ago, so I convinced him that a knitted cap might help. I gave it to him as soon as I cast off and caught him wearing it in the house the next night.

Long winded excuse for a late start, but I am happy to be free to join in this o ne. Looks like a wide variety of guessing so far too. Off to cast on and catch up, can’t wait to join the fun. 🙂

wow! I can’t believe I won – thanks so much Claire – the pic looks like a wonderful Christmas goodie basket for me. 🙂
I’ll have to check my emails when I get back to work in January – currently on vacation.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone here! Looking forward to continuing following along on these – they are relaxing and exciting at the same time (plus, they work for gifts for anyone – both kids have already claimed theirs, so I think this one gets to go into my gift stash for next year!)

Congrats Heather! AND A HUGE THANK YOU to Claire. This has been so much fun. Only a few more rows to go, then I’m going to block it to make it really pop out. May send her to my Mom with an “I love ewe” card. 🙂
