March 2016 MKAL

March 2016 MKAL

March, this month is the beginning of spring and more importantly Easter.  My favorite holiday, why?  Jelly beans come to mind, but of course the real reason is the Risen Savior, hope for a hopeless world.

This months dishcloth is a true Easter themed cloth, no bunnies, baskets or jelly beans, (on the dishcloth at least)!  This is a simple knit, purl design, one we will finish well before Easter Sunday.  It will make a perfect gift tucked into a basket full of goodies.  Hope you love it!

How it works –

Come back to THIS post every day through March, and I’ll add two additional rows  to the pattern, listing the new rows under the date they are posted.  Don’t worry if you miss a day, I will just add the rows, never remove them.     **You may find it helpful to bookmark thedomesticdash.com, so you can find your way back!**

Use any worsted weight cotton yarn you like, (but a solid color will show up the design better).

Knit so that you create a ‘firm’ fabric, to really show off the relief stitches.  The tighter you knit the cloth, the more the design will POP!  For most of you, this will be a size 6 or 7 needle.  If you like a smaller dishcloth try using a dk weight cotton and a size 5 needle.

Just for fun, if/when you have a guess as to the design, leave a comment, the FIRST person to make an exact guess will win a prize from The Quarter Stitch in Wilmington, NC!  Good Luck!

I am ready for this new kal. Am thinking of a cross or our risen Savior. Think I’ll use my robin’s egg blue cotton yarn to represent rebirth and springtime. It could say He Is Risen, Alleluia, Rejoice or Easter; maybe it will be an Easter Lily or a cross with doves or lillies and the sun shining in the background. We shall see…

Going with a true Easter theme, I would guess 3 Crosses on the hill or a stone rolled away from the door. He is Risen. I was going to use a pink, but if you are going with the true reason for Easter, I think I will choose white for purity and how we are after accepting God as our Saviour. A clean slate washed in the Blood of the Lamb. Maybe even a lamb. as in Lamb of God. I am really looking forward to this month

I just started the March dishcloth. I found some Sugar N Cream in my bag that I need to use. It is the Country Twists so I am not so sure the design will show but I need to use this yarn.

Claire, I want to thank you for all these many months of KAL’s. I have learned many new stitches and this has given me a boost of confidence. I struggled with the Oct 2013 dishcloth, the Owl in front of the moon in the field of flowers. All those bobbles scared and confused me. Well, today I decided to tackle those bobbles and I am happy to say I concurred them and will be finishing this dishcloth. I am excited! So again…. Thank you for all the hard work you put into these!

The stone rolled across the door of the tomb of Jesus.
    Matthew 27: 57-60
    57. When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus’ disciple:
    58. He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
    59. And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
    60. And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.

One part is Gol’go•tha or Skull Place with 3 crosses, another the catacomb with stone rolled away OR a round communion/eucharist AND 3rd part “JOHN 3:16” God’s greatest expression of love, the sacrifice of his only begotten son, he willingly, to reconcile mankind, made sinful through Adam”s choice of self reliance and disobience, to God. Might include verse 17 as well!!!

Hey Marjorie – I’ve been here all along! Been busy – yard work for two days, then worked at my vet clinic yesterday and going to Fort Worth today. We had rain, but no flooding. (Thank you God!) Last week was a wet one and yesterday started out cloudy with drizzle but turned sunny in the afternoon. Today there is a 50% chance of rain here in the Abilene area, but 70% in Fort Worth where we are headed soon – go figure, eh? Our son and family will be here next Thursday from Baton Rouge. Can’t wait to see them and our 3 granddaughters! Snow expected in parts of the midwest – yikes – I’ll take rain! Hope you are well. How’s your weather? Love these kals!

Glad to hear that you are safe and dry. We are next door in Louisiana and we are very fortunate not to have flooding, some places did. Like you I will take rain over snow but this time we had a little to much. Especially after all the flooding we had last year. Hope your family arrive safely and enjoy those precious granddaughters.

Pictures before the very end would very likely spoil the mystery. If It seems to me that something is not quite right among my rows of knits & purls, I’ll double check my work with the instructions, making sure they read the same. At the beginning of one cloth as we started to form the image, I was stumped, until I realized I cast on the wrong amount..there is help when stitches other than knit or purl are included. Not wanting to inundate anyone with e-mails, if uncertain about your progress, would e-mail a photo to Claire or designer be okay? That or have another knitter you know or at LYS(local yarn shop) have a look at your progress and instructions. Hope this might help.

Thank you so much for having the knit-a-longs! It’s the most fun and doable knit-a-long that I have joined doing test knits for designers does throw a wrench in the works for bigger projects. Yours is definitely the most encouraging since I have been able to complete them and “on time”/by the end of the month. The mystery makes them exciting too.
I was trying to post my above gratitude and appreciate, only I could not get the Wi-fi to work well…had to make a trip to the library to make that happen but wind knocked over tree and power to over half the town. Finally I can post! Thank you!
