Hello September KAL

Hello September KAL

I’ll share a family secret with you, my little family loves 70’s and 80’s music.  Now, my kids would never admit it, but they love a good sing-a-long in the car or dance party in the sun-room, and 1970-1989, those are our JAMS!  On the way to school this morning I serenaded them with the old Earth Wind and Fire classic, September and my children, well they can sing along with every da, doo, da!  Hello September, and hello to a brand new dishcloth!  (It’s a simple knit and purl design  you’ll love this one.)

P1020477

How it works –

Come back to THIS post every day through September, and I’ll add two additional rows  to the pattern, listing the new rows under the date they are posted.  Don’t worry if you miss a day, I will just add the rows, never remove them.     **You may find it helpful to bookmark thedomesticdash.com, so you can find your way back!**

Use any worsted weight cotton yarn you like, (but a solid color will show up the design better).

Knit so that you create a ‘firm’ fabric, to really show off the relief stitches.  The tighter you knit the cloth, the more the design will POP!  For most of you, this will be a size 6 or 7 needle.  If you like a smaller dishcloth try using a dk weight cotton and a size 5 needle.

Just for fun, if/when you have a guess as to the design, leave a comment, the FIRST person to make an exact guess will win a prize from The Quarter Stitch in Wilmington, NC!  Good Luck!

Cast on 41 stitches.

Good luck to you all. I have no doubt I’ll be the last one to see the pattern but I can still enjoy the knitting !

good to see you Betty! I may have to sit this one out in order to breathe (too many WIPs and work is ramping up again) but I’ll still watch from the sidelines and live vicariously even if I don’t get it cast on right away. 🙂

I’m with jonibee – can’t decide what color to work with this month. Maybe I’ll just reach into my cotton stash with eyes closed and choose that way! Claire, good to see we are off to another month of mystery knitting. Glad to be back. Jonibee, congratulations to you and DH on your 56th anniversary. You guys are to be commended.

Claire it sounds as if you have a great time doing the school run. I hope that you all have a good school year. Jonibee congratulations on the upcoming anniversary and I wish you many more. I am going with hot purple its not as bright as the wrapper makes it sound. I have made one out of all the other colors in my stash. Thanks Claire for making each month special and giving us a chance to make new knitting friends.

Claire, I’d be a-rockin’ along with you and the kids in the car! I have a fair collection of 70’s & 80’s music – classic rock is my favorite. I can just picture you all singing as you go down the road. Sounds like the stuff memories are made of. 😉

    Hi everyone,

Glad to be back with all of you for month of September. I chose a pale blue because it is the only solid color I have and I think the picture of this cloth will be nice.
    Happy knitting !

Hi Everyone! Happy to start a new cloth! Thanks again Claire!
Congratulations Jonibee! We celebrated our 36th anniversary yesterday. Didn’t do much since we’re babysitting for our 2 yr. old grandson who is now a big brother to a new baby brother who decided to show himself 3 weeks early and is in neonatal ICU. We’re thankful all is going well but it’s tiring chasing a 2 yr. old that is in the process of being potty trained! I always hated potty training!! So I’m going to keep up with the chatter until my grandson goes home then I’ll catch up with everyone on the cloth!!

Congratulations to Jonibee and Karen – respectable numbers both. We’re working on our 49th now. It hardly seems like it at times – where did all those years go ? I can tell they did go somewhere though when I try to watch my friend’s 2 year old great grand child – whew !! It took two of us just 15 minutes to wear flat out. I’ll have to catch up on the knitting tomorrow – just thinking about that 2yr old child has made me long for bed !

Thanks everyone for the congrats! Elizabeth, the potty training is mostly done. I put him in pull-ups and told him to keep his big boy panties dry. It’s worked. Of course we do potty runs many times a day but he’s got it down now. My daughter is happy because with a newborn it’ll make life easier. Today I not only have my grandson but my son is bringing his one month old daughter over for a couple of hours. Will I survive 2 of them???? I keep reminding myself I only have to manage one minute at a time. I read your post Betty W. and know you totally understand! What happened to our energy levels? We’re retired so the energy should be stored up for us, right??

KAREN H. I have faith in you. We are the older generation nothing there is nothing that we cannot do. Maybe I should be quiet I did the grandchild bit but so far we don’t have any great grands.

LOL – you are right Marjorie, I still think there is nothing I still can’t do but my brain tells me maybe I should keep quiet about that cause it’s just not true ! Karen, I wish you luck. Not too long ago I was visiting the grandma in her pool. Her grand sons were there – one just over 3 yrs and the other 5, who is much taller and heavier. After tossing Lucus up so he could splash down in the pool, Aiden wanted his turn. Whew – it was all I had to get him up high enough and then repeat the round. I had to bow out for a third round. Back in the day…. oh well.

So.. .how’s the knitting going ? So far my cloth looks like the bottom of a picture frame – or side, or maybe the top ?? This is the only part of the knitting that I feel confident of making a guess because I know the “picture” will be framed – ha – does that count Claire ?

I caught up with the knitting this morning and spent some time looking at my cloth backwards and forwards, inside out and right side in and… have come up with a guess which matches your’s Jonibee. Had you not posted I would have kept it to myself because at times my brain sees what it wants to see no matter what is actually there!

I’m with you Betty, our brain sees what we want it ti see. When I looked at it upside down, I see a birthday cake with candles or a harlequin kinda crown hat with little bells at the points and when I look at it straight, I see the silhouette of a little boy and a little girl holding hands.

This is what makes these so much fun I think. And at the end, if I’m lucky enough, I do finally see what everyone else sees. Plus my grand daughter has another dish cloth from her absent grand mother. I should have told her when i make her enough of them maybe we could line them from NC to TX and pull the two states closer together.

I got a few days behind, but I have to agree that it looks like an elephant. But he has no tail! Maybe his tail is hiding behind his backside!

I think whatever this is in the corner will be observed from the right side. There are two objects exactly alike but I can’t determine what they are.

Maybe those are tree leaves or a rock formation to give the elephant some shade!

Perhaps it is feeding time at the zoo? I never get it right; however, it’s fun to guess.

The elephant could be on Noah’s ark, since there appears to be a window.

As the weather is getting cooler I start to think about more involved knitting, I do have a project for knitted leggings for a baby that I’m working on but it was put aside during the summer months. I will finish that before going on to another project. Thank You all for your good wishes.
