Hello Old Self

Hello Old Self

This afternoon I attempted to tackle my craft room.  It is a small little room stocked with all kinds of crafty goodness, but it has fallen into major disarray.  Disarray to the point that it has become ridiculously difficult to get anything accomplished in there!  Not to mention difficult to find things.  I have had lots of help to get it like this, but no volunteers to straighten it back up!

I started sorting and piling and pitching!  Making great progress, until I uncovered a small fabric covered journal stashed behind some books up on a shelf.  I opened it up and was reunited with my 18-year-old self!

It was irresistible, I just sat down and read.  I don’t even remember writing it!  It detailed the life of a busy UNCW student, still living at home, working as a nanny and girlfriend to Mr. Fix-it for just over a year.  I record recipes, (I was teaching myself to cook), sewing/embroidery projects, a daily log of my running/exercise, my classes and grades, and all sorts of commentary about my friends, family and relationships.   Sound familiar?

After reading it through, I called my Dad to thank him for such a thoughtful gift, and how much I enjoyed reliving that year!  He is now taking credit for my blogging career!  🙂

The craft room is still a work in progress, but the journal is tucked back on a shelf, maybe it will make my day again sometime!

Love the post about your journal. I also have a very small crafting room. It is 8 x 10 and I have squeezed everything I can into that little cubby hole! It is hard to work in sometimes but I love the solitude it gives me. I close the door and my heaven is right there. Everyone knows not to bother me when I enter my special place so I am left alone….ahhh!

Isn’t it amazing how you relive that moment frozen in time and you weren’t even aware of it at that time? What gets me is the handwriting. I have found notes from my Mom I don’t remember receiving but reading them in her handwriting is like a physical visit from her. She is long passed but is right here in a moment when I see her handwriting.

You can always clean you can’t always have a visit with the past.
