February 2016

February 2016

A day late and a dollar short, more than a joke this month, I’m literally a day late starting the dishcloth!  I must still have vacation brain.  Take a look why,

We are back from our snow-skiing trip about a week, but as all momma’s know, the weeks before and after a big trip are what make the trip a ‘vacation’ for the rest of the family.  I think I’ve just about got all the gear cleaned and put away until next year!  The dishcloth this month is as usual a simple knit and purl design, keeping it simple and easy!

P1020477

How it works –

Come back to THIS post every day through February, and I’ll add two additional rows  to the pattern, listing the new rows under the date they are posted.  Don’t worry if you miss a day, I will just add the rows, never remove them.     **You may find it helpful to bookmark thedomesticdash.com, so you can find your way back!**

Use any worsted weight cotton yarn you like, (but a solid color will show up the design better).

Knit so that you create a ‘firm’ fabric, to really show off the relief stitches.  The tighter you knit the cloth, the more the design will POP!  For most of you, this will be a size 6 or 7 needle.  If you like a smaller dishcloth try using a dk weight cotton and a size 5 needle.

Just for fun, if/when you have a guess as to the design, leave a comment, the FIRST person to make an exact guess will win a prize from The Quarter Stitch in Wilmington, NC!  Good Luck!

Cast on 41 stitches.

Row 1- *(K1, P1), repeat from * to last stitch K1.

Row 2- *(K1, P1,), repeat from * to last stitch K1.

Claire I hope you and your family had a wonderful vacation full of great memories. I am hoping to do better keeping up on the two rows. I am afraid that December and January got away from me. I need to see what color I have in my stash.

Back again for another go-around with 4 at a time. The January cloths worked out pretty well for me. I had time to finish the leggings for my grand daughter and a cowl too… woo woo.
I’ve started on my Christmas ornament this month and another cowl – one fairly challenging and one dada knitting (as a friend her puts it) so with a little luck…. The cloths and this blog should keep me grounded – it’s a great way to start the day.

Very nice sunset shot! I am using a denim blue but probably should have chosen a prettier color since the pattern will probably be a Valentine’s themed one – hearts, cupid, etc

I picked Sugar & Cream pink for this month – because it’s February, after all. I think something Valentine-y is too obvious. Something presidential? A silhouette of Washington or Lincoln, perhaps? Or, in honor of my wedding anniversary, the number 29??

    I also went for pink,Sugar n’ cream’s hot pink”,got a bit tired of the large cone of white that I bought.I was thinking Valentine’s Day,too..maybe a rose.

    Elizabeth M February 4, 2016 at 10:04 pm | | Reply

I had two different pinks, but decided to use them for something else so I am using a dark green. Maybe I chose that because I’ve been looking at snow for the last month and want something green! Maybe this month will be hearts, or maybe spring flowers. Might even be a cat or dog chasing butterfly or ball.

I am using Ombre yellow/wht reminds me of the sun..the groundhog didn’t see his shadow..an early Spring prediction, but you would never know it by the snow that is coming down here in MA. Oh joy…some more to shovel (though it is pretty on the trees) it seems to be that wet heavy stuff that puts all in jeopardy…

We got around 9″ of snow, even though it’s pretty because of its wetness it is causing havoc for alot of people ..with power outages and trees coming down because of the added icy weight. It’s slippery out this a.m…so for those who are experiencing this take care..perhaps the puzzle will be that of a figure skater twirling around….

Burrrrrr !! We are supposed to get a slight dusting of snow here today but I think it will just be more rain. Haven’t been down to look at the end of my driveway yet but I wouldn’t be surprised after last night’s rain, to see the overage of our ditch out in the street. Everyone stay safe above the snow line and in the flood zones. Staying inside to knit is much preferred than getting stuck in any kind of bad weather.

Well, I am all caught up now but nothing comes to mind as to what our mystery picture is. I will keep on and try to figure it out. Windy here today, but sunny and beautiful. Supposed to be near 60 degrees, then head into the 70’s by Thursday. After that it is expected (for now anyway…) to slowly get back into the 60’s. I can’t wait till summer!!!

This has been a fun time, after some frogging when my brain just refused to focus that is. If any of you plan to knit more than one cloth next month you might put a marker on the first one (I knit two on each needle) to help you keep going in the right direction. Knitting in the wee hours when I’m letting my thoughts roam brought surprises twice during the knit…. “um, i wonder why this cloth is larger then it’s mate?” Congrats to the winner – I’m just happy to once again have ended my projects with them looking like they were meant to. These 4 will make a great addition to my December stash and I’m eager to start the March set : )

Thank you all. That was such a surprise because I wasn’t sure what it was, even after we finished the main part. The yarn does look beautiful and I can’t wait to get it.
