April Dishcloth-a-long

April Dishcloth-a-long

We were on spring break last week and before I knew it the month had gone!  Everyone has returned to work and school today thankfully.  After just one week I can feel my anxiety start to bubble up, “And just how are you going to keep them busy this summer?”  Oh well,  like Scarlett O’Hera I’ll think about it tomorrow.  Today I’m thinking dishcloth, how about you?

How it works –

Come back to THIS post every day through April, and I’ll add two additional rows  to the pattern, listing the new rows under the date they are posted.  Don’t worry if you miss a day, I will just add the rows, never remove them.     **You may find it helpful to bookmark thedomesticdash.com, so you can find your way back!**

Use any worsted weight cotton yarn you like, (but a solid color will show up the design better).

Knit so that you create a ‘firm’ fabric, to really show off the relief stitches.  The tighter you knit the cloth, the more the design will POP!  For most of you, this will be a size 6 or 7 needle.  If you like a smaller dishcloth try using a dk weight cotton and a size 5 needle.

Just for fun, if/when you have a guess as to the design, leave a comment, the FIRST person to make an exact guess will win a prize from The Quarter Stitch in Wilmington, NC!  Good Luck!

Cast on 41 stitches.

Row 1- *(K1, P1), repeat from * to last stitch K1.

Row 2- *(K1, P1,), repeat from * to last stitch K1.

Okay…bright and sunny yellow for me – reminds me of pretty Spring daffodils Or tulips. Wonder what this one will be? April showers – an umbrella in the rain? Maybe some pretty flowers too. We shall see…

Glad to read that it was only Spring break that put you behind. I am sure that you will come up with some amazing things to keep your family occupied during the summer. I am also thinking April showers bring May flowers but I haven’t guess right yet, I doubt that this month will be any different. Thank you again Claire for all your hard work. Found a ball of lavender in my stash so that will be April’s color.

Yes, it was a once a year sale, so I cleaned up. Decided to make a second trip for something else, and lo and behold! The sale was still on. Got lots of nice self striping yarn in pretty pastels, as well as denims and some bright colors. Now to use it up…

    K1, P1, K1, P16, K2, P14, K1, P2, K1, P1, K1.
Sometimes it’s easy to not notice the knits and purls have gotten mixed up. Claire’s patterns normally follow along with one after the other soooooo I’m fairly sure, but, if I’m guessing wrong, please accept my apologies.

“Singing in the rain”…do any of you remember Gene Kelly in that movie…especially the scene where he is sloshing in the puddles….I love that song..so it seems right that this months’ cloth would have something to do with April Showers..

Hmmmm….I still say it’s an umbrella with rain coming down but the rain streaks are showing up where the umbrella should be. I think this umbrella has been blown inside out from the wind leaving no protection from the rain for the poor person who has it…

Got behind but hubby has a stress test at the hospital in the morning so I should be able to catch up. However, if it keeps raining we may need a boat to get there. Jonibee:- I do remember singing in the rain I think about it every time I go out and paddle through the puddles. Does it date us? Deborah Pearson:- Like you I am become very friendly with my umbrella the thing spends most of the drying on the front porch waiting for my next trip down the driveway. Everyone who is getting wet stay safe!

If this is an umbrella, it will be the only one I own. I rarely ever use an umbrella. As I tell my kids….. “It’s only water, I know I am sweet, but I am not made of sugar. I won’t melt” They all just laugh at me. Honestly though, I don’t like umbrellas.

Same here Elizabeth. Umbrellas never seem to work for me – that is, when I actually have one handy when it’s needed. I prefer to just wear a rain coat with a hood.. or no protection. I kind of like the feel of drops hitting me and splashing in the puddles was always a number one hit on a rainy day.

Marjorie, I hear ya – it is overcast today & was misting at 6 a.m. this morning when I let my dogs out to potty. More rain expected. Gonna have to put dune buggy flags on all my pets’ tails soon if we don’t dry up enough to do a decent mowing on our property. Marjorie, we are safe and well. No rain as predicted, but plenty of 15-20 mph breezes. May rain Sunday or Monday, who knows? I think the weather forecasters depend too much on their computers – they need to look out the window once in a while – lol! Hubby got majority of the mowing done today and I raked up grass for my Shetland, mini mare and Pygmy goat – they love it! Not sure what to make with that gorgeous yarn, but think it will tell me when I get it! Hope all is well where you are.

We got more rain which we really didn’t need. The heavier rain went west and north of us. I do believe that the Red River will flood again this year because there were many inches of rain In parts of Texas,Arkansas and Oklahoma. My yard is like a paddling pool and I hate to think of the mosquitoes we will have. Glad you managed to get the grass cut. I am not sure when we will be able to cut ours. Maybe I need a few goats or a couple of sheep to take care of the job. Stay dry and safe.

I was just thinking the same thing I checked a few days ago and coming back today to check again. Hope you’re OK Claire we really do like the dishcloth get along it’s not for the prizes for me but just for the fun. If you need to do it a different way that could probably work also say giving one weeks of clues at a time.

Or 10-12rows at a time and only having it for 5 or 6 days like some KALS.! I usually get behind but that would be okay.

Happy Mother’s Day to everyone. I had deleted April after I had printed the pattern and since I couldn’t find anything on the web site for May decided to check to see if there were any comments at the end of April. I am going with the premise that no news is good news and hope it is nothing more than computer problems. Claire, we are worried about you and hope that all is well.

I don’t believe there is a May dishcloth as it would have reached us by now..I only hope that we learn if this site is going to continue in the future. I check back occassionally as it was one that I enjoyed visiting and participating in…

It’s very unlike Clair to not let us know as to whether this site will continue to have the RMT..I wonder if the store has any info so we will not be in suspense as to what the future holds for the site…

Hi guys… keep on checking back now and then. Claire returned from her trip ok but picked up a virus and has been fighting it off ever since. Actually the whole family has it.
apparently it’s a nasty one…It just has to run it’s course. I’m sure she will be posting again when she feels better. I know she appreciates your concern.

Thank heavens everyone arrived home safely after the trip. I hope that they recover from the virus soon. The bad thing is that there really isn’t a cure just rest and time. They have our prayers for a quick recovery.

Good news glimmers…. word yesterday was Claire felt like she would live for the first time in what must, I’m sure, seem like months to her. This virus really kicked the stuffing out of her and I’m happy it has turned around. Claire…. you have a solid backing of people who care for you and who will be happy to see you out and about again.

I sincerely wish that someone would post some news about Claire. We are all so concerned about her, and hope and pray that she is all right. Also, I would like to know if the Mystery Dishcloth site will ever be back…I think we are entitled to know that. I am 89 years old and I always looked forward to the two new rows of knitting every morning. I was the first to guess the Valentine card and won a beautiful skein of yarn. Happy Fall to everyone!

June, I agree. We deserve to hear if the Mystery Dishcloth will be back or not. We have been almost like a family here and I for one miss those two rows. It became a part of my bedtime routine to do them. I would enjoy doing the dish cloth even without a prize for the correct guess. I also have seen an occasional post from The Quarter Stitch on facebook. We miss Claire and hoe she is ok. It’s been 5 month and no news. 🙁

Claire if you read this please let us know..
